a true story

Last Saturday began like any other for me. Maybe a little worse. I woke up with an infection in my eye and I felt greasier than usual. We had planned to go to Elk River Falls on Saturday the previous Monday. We hadn't been in almost a year. (We first had gone when we were just friends). None the less I didn't feel really up to it. I had a lot of homework which my job wasn't allowing time for, and right before we left someone called to get me to work. I wanted the extra money, but I looked over at Brett and he seemed more disappointed than usual.
My natural inclination was to skip the trip, take the shift, and do the homework.
But that Brett has the most darndable blue eyes....
So I went. My eyes hurt from whatever it was and I had to shade them or keep them close. It seems like he went back twice to my house to get something to help. Then he stopped at the Dollar Store on the way out and bought me some sun glasses. He picked out some white ones, and then said I looked like an alien. But he must like aliens cause he really wanted to buy me that pair. Then he was patient as I wandered the Dollar Store (who can resist the dollar store?) and then picked out a flower for me from the ginormous wall of fabric flowers. He picked exactly what I was looking at in the corner of my eye. That was nice.

50 minutes later we arrive at Elk River Falls Road to find it heaped with feet of snow. Undrivable, unhikable. Completely blocked off. He seemed pretty sad, but I didn't care much. I liked Moose Creek Reservoir just as much or more, as we had discovered that last October. It was only down the road a bit.
We went there to find the lakes frozen over. A sprinkling of people were ice fishing and it looked like so much fun. We goofed around on the small pond where no one was.
Walking back the entrance where there was an outlet from the reservoir where we stopped. The water that was seeping out was beneath the rocks so it proved easy to walk around and not get your feet wet. We threw rocks, broke blocks of ice, and had a good time.

Now, not to brag, but seriously to inform, I knew if I started dating Brett I would marry him. We were just friends at first, and hung out so I got to find out how awesome he was from an unskewed perpective. I was very freaked out by the thought of marriage a year ago. But I really liked Brett. He made life less serious, easier, and more enjoyable than normal. We both knew pretty much we would get married, it was just a matter of time. So from this comes this joke/phrase/whatever where he says "will you marry me" and I say yes. It usually starts out like, "Hey you got cute face, will you marry me?" and I like this- so I say yes.
He had already said it twice earlier, but only in the same conversation in which we also talked about Vanilla Ice.

(Earlier, while driving we saw a "Watch for Ice" sign. He interpreted that to me as- watch for Vanilla Ice, he is roaming this hills... something like big foot.)

I was looking out onto the snow covered hills and the perfectly green trees when he asked, "Will you marry me." I didn't think to look at him. I said yes, but continued to think about Vanilla Ice. He got closer and started fiddling in his pockets. I started to wonder if he was joking, because I was about to yell "get down on your knees boy!" but I realized he was really grabbing something.

Then BAM! He pulls out this huge blue box and pops it open to reveal the sweetest rock I've ever seen.

Are you really proposing?! Did you buy a ring? I kept asking over and over. Even though it was obvious. He got down ... I kept repeating myself... So he said "just say yes!"
We hugged and then had the best kiss ever.

Poster Children for Marriage

1 in 2 marriages ends in divorce. This statistic is not only a disheartning fact, it is a cry from the very roots of America asking for new hope. The hills weep. The mountains morn. And the brooks babble (brooks aren't likely to be much affected by stupid statistics.)
America cries out for help.

I was awoken by this fact early on last week. It was rather windy all day. The earth was sad. The earth did not say Hello (if you watched Willy Wonka, you might get that). I think Brett heard the cry of the wind also. After we had lunch with Pocahontas we decided that America needed an icon for Marriage. I said to Brett,"Let's do American Idol of Marriage. We sit at a table and tell each couple whats wrong with them."
"I think the idea is to get people excited about marriage, not to make them cry."
"I could make so many people cry." I said rubbing my greedy hands together.
"No!" Brett said as he splashed a glass of water in my face, "This isn't what this is about! And besides you've made too many people cry this week. I won't stand for it."
"You're right." I said wiping the kool aid off my cheeks. Suddenly I felt the urge to stand on the table in the middle of the commons. As the door opened across the room a flush of wind swept my hair widly into the air. Music started playing from nowhere. I looked down at Brett whose eyes shown with justice. That's right, Justice. He looked at me with the utmost sincerity and said, "we should do a Project Runway instead."
Suddenly the music stopped. You know, that sound it makes when you push the record needle off of the record. Because we've all used records to play those crazy Britney Spears hits back in the day. Or if that doesn't recall your memory, its the sound you hear when you are rockin' a turn-table.

Apparently there were rappers in the commons that day.

Anyways, I got off the table and stared at Brett.
"You know, project Runway. We could meet Heidi Klum."
"Whatever, I would so take her down."

"Point taken. Lets get just married and show everyone how its done."

"Yes, because we know everything about marriage."

"No silly," Brett said "But we sure could give it a try!"

And then we gave eachother high-fives, completed our special handshake, and we were engaged.

Uncle Jesse was so proud of us. And even though Danny was a little shaken at first, Uncle Joey told a few jokes and it was all better. Then Kimmy Gibler came over to the house and we made waffles.

The End.

Things that Do have Purpose

A sort of response to Matt's essay on meaningless jobs. In my few weeks at my favorite fast food job (which shall remain nameless for legal purposes) in which I eat fresh and hang out with Jared Fogel, I have learned that most of my routine does have a very important purpose.

Things that do have a purpose

Do not set the spray bottle of Windex next to the spray bottle of water. When “artist” is in a rush to prepare bread, and they reach to spray the bread with a bottle of water, they might just grab the Windex and not notice its azure color until they already sprayed the bread. Then the customer stares at the “artist” in horror. They are no longer an “artist” they are a murderer. A murderer of bread.
I’m sorry Marcy. I’m sorry.

Do not try to “mix it up” when answering the phone. It may be the boss or his secretary.
I’m sorry Larry.

Do not put a pile of knives at the bottom of big soapy bin with all the other dishes.
I’m sorry Ben.

Don’t decide you are gonna “skip” saying hi to a few customer… especially when the boss is visiting.
I’m sorry customers.

Do not ring yourself up for purchases. Let the sympathetic supervisor do it for you. They may want to give you a better discount.

Always keep a good attitude. Like the time you may have let the left the ice tea switch on and let a gallon of ice tea run over the customers cup on to the counter and onto the floor. Do pretend like it didn’t happen and leave the mess there for someone to clean up while you are helping another customer.
I have yet to find a flaw in this logic.

Do not try to write lists of “Things that have a purpose” while trying to take notes in class. The teacher knows when your blogging, and goes through the notes at faster pace and you miss stuff. Grrr.

gonna git may a milbern....

YAY for Valentines Day!
Last year Brett asked me over to watch 24 and eat dinner. I thought it was yet another pity date, but whatever it was I had a really good time. He heated me up potatoes his best friends wife made and gave me a ring. It took 2 days to convince me that he didn't actually just find it on the ground and decide to give it to me.

Last February I began to hang out with Brett because me made me feel comfortable and happy. I could really be myself around him and he didnt seem to mind. Being with him felt like being with family...
...little did I know...

Charles in Charge

This is my man. That is me. Thats my mans friend.

Charles came to visit from Spokane~ he was recieved by 5 angry girls who were mad at me because I didnt tell them that Bretts friend was "hot." I thought that was just a given- Brett's hot, his friends are hot...

We went skating the first time he came, and man did Brett and Charles look adorable. They've been friends since birth and they look like little kids when they are together....
awwwww...
